On mac you have to add /Users/REPLACE-WITH-YOUR-USER-NAME/android-sdk/tools and /Users/REPLACE-WITH-YOUR-USER-NAME/android-sdk/platform-tools (if that's where you installed the SDK). Make sure you have android and adb on your path.
1) Install the latest Java JDK 2) Install the android command line SDK - Scroll down to the section that says 'Get just the command line tools'.
